In
Apulia there are many castles which it
is possible to visit because they are
location of cultural events, shows and
others as the 15th Century castle of
Copertino which has a portal decorate
whit a triumphal arch, but it has also
an early Christian crypt. At Castro
Marina the castle faces the Otranto’s
channel, it was rebuilt on the ancient
remains of the Roman fortress. The
castle of Gallipoli was home to the
Acquaviva Counts. It was an ancient
Angevin period fortress then it was
reinforced with a ravelin during the
1522. The majestic De Monti castle at
Corigliano D’Otranto has a façade rich
in decorations. This is the most
appreciative castle in Apulia because it
has a square plan with four round towers
each of them is dedicated to a Saint:
Saint Antonio Abate, Saint Giorgio,
Saint Giovanni Battista, Saint
Michelangelo. These are the most
important in Apulia, but there are
others Salve, Morciano di Leuca ,
Giuliano and Salignano, the Sforza
castle at Acquarica del Capo, Scorrano,
Taurisano, Tricase, Racale, Tutino,
Parabita, Palmariggi and Nardò. The
Acquarica del Capo's castle it was
quadrangular plan with 4 towers, of them
it
remains today only one. The castle
dates back to Norman domination, then it
was home of the Giovanni Antonio Orsini,
today it is property of the Acquarica
del Capo municipality. The Carlo V
castle in the centre of Lecce, is a
centre for various forms of cultural
activities and various entertainment. In
